Watching
Waves curl
Like fingers grasping
And then crashing and melting
Into the ocean body below
Liquid sand
Rushes in
Duney ribbons in rows
Change, change
Constant build and erode
Rushing back out
To where we came from
To join the sea
This is lovely and thoughtful. Buddhist use the analogy of the sea and waves in explaining who we are. We are all (all sentinent beings)water- part of the same ocean of conciousness. Each individual wave (each of us) only appears at the moment to be a seperate entity. We rise for a while with the illusion of seperatness, but soon enough we will remerge with the oneness of the ocean.
ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting and comforting thought. How dare I say "poetic"? that you had this revelation yourself. Lovely- serene and lovely.
Thank you. This poem insisted on being written. I had been writing essays and memoir type short stores for a while, but hadn't thought of dabbling in poetry. One afternoon the image of soft waves meeting beige sand and the changing interface of the two just wouldn't leave my mind. Gradually the words formed coherant phrases and I am so grateful I had the presence of mind to grab a pen and paper. As an artist yourself, I'm sure you appreciate when inspiration strikes!
